Masaru Matano was one of the best Japanese luthiers in the 1960s and 1970s and his guitars are among the best Japanese classical guitars from that period. This amazing guitar idolizes the craft of the Ramirez 1A design with some minor changes and in terms of sound is at the same level.

In terms of playability, the guitar is a joy.  Has low action and no issues anywhere on the neck. This Classe 300 is an amazing value, in sound, looks, and playability for the price and beats most factory guitars made these days by a good margin while costing a fraction of what they cost.

Model 300 from 1971 was a top model that Matano made that year (the models were 250, 300, 350, and 400).  Model numbers reflecting the price and that the Yen devalued very quickly in the late 1960s and early 1970s ..being why Matano renumbered his models throughout that time.

The woods are very high quality, aged extremely well, much like what you will find on a Ramirez guitar from the same time. The cedar top is light and has a thin coating of finish and the back and sides are made from double-plate Indian rosewood which is beautiful. The tuners work smoothly and have no issues.

The condition of the guitar is very good with a few minor marks on it. The finish is in very good condition as well.

The fingerboard and the frets have minor wear in the first few positions but that does not affect playability in any way and is normal for a 50-year-old guitar that has been played. Check the pictures as much as possible and you can see it is in very good to great shape.  Been loved and aged into a unique and great tone. To us, a guitar without any signs of use never sounds the way this one does.

The neck is straight and the action is set at 2.8 mm on the 1st string and 3.6 mm on the 6th string at the 12th fret. The saddle sticks out 3.6 mm on the treble side and 4.3 mm on the bass side. This guitar has the typical Spanish sound of a Ramirez (ie 1A) with deep bass and clear singing trebles that balance well with the bass.

The sound is balanced from string to string with no wolf tones or dead notes anywhere on the fingerboard.
